New Delhi: Krishan Kohli has resigned after about four and a half years as managing director at auto component major Continental Automotive Brakes Systems India. According to industry sources, April 30th is set to be his last day at Continental.
Kohli joined Continental India in February 2018 as India market head for Vehicle Dynamics and Hydraulic Brakes businesses in the company’s global hierarchy. He was elevated to the current role in January 2020. Under his charge Continental India took various steps to realign its business operations for faster growth. For instance, adaptation of deep solid localization strategy of anti-lock braking systems (ABS) and its production capacity ramp up from 1 mn to around 2.8 mn units annually. The capacity ramp was in line with the scale of business growth of the company’s vertical over the past four years or so.
Along with manufacturing footprint expansion, the company also saw significant ramp up in R&D activities to develop solutions tailored for the Indian market. The recently announced JV with Japan’s Nissinbo is a key highlight during Kohli’s stint. Notably, the Vehicle Dynamics business is especially critical for Continental’s growth in India as after the ABS regulation for two-wheelers (125cc and above), ESC is expected to become mandatory for cars starting next year.
Kohli is likely to take up a new role in the domestic industry after a sabbatical. The industry professional, in his early fifties, has been working in the automotive sector for over 30 years. The Continental stint was his second in the component industry. Prior to it, he had a role in Eaton’s Asia-Pacific business region. Kohli started his career with Tata Motors, and also had a stint at Eicher Motors.
It is learnt that Continental is yet to finalise a successor to Kohli, sources added.
