Hyundai cars in INDIA

Hyundai has revealed an ambitious product strategy for the Indian market spanning until the Financial Year 2030 (FY2030). This roadmap involves a significant shift toward electrified powertrains, aiming to refresh the company’s entire vehicle portfolio.

The Scale of the Planned Expansion

By the end of the decade, Hyundai plans to have a total of 32 models on sale in India. To achieve this broad portfolio, the company has scheduled 26 new launches—including all-new models, facelifts, and full model changes—across various financial years.

The product blitz is heavily concentrated towards the end of the cycle. While FY2026 will see four launches, the period between FY2029 and FY2030 is slated for the introduction of 14 new or substantially updated models.

Transitioning the Powertrain Mix

Currently, Hyundai’s sales volumes are heavily reliant on petrol and diesel vehicles, which account for about three-fourths of its total sales. Environmentally friendly powertrains (EVs and hybrids) contribute a small fraction, while CNG holds approximately 19 per cent.

The company projects a dramatic rebalancing of this mix. By 2030, cleaner options, particularly hybrids and electric vehicles (EVs), are expected to account for nearly half of Hyundai’s total sales volume in India.

The Hybrid Strategy: Introducing 8 New Models

The cornerstone of this transformation is a robust hybrid strategy. Hyundai has officially committed to introducing eight hybrid models in India by FY2030.

Mainstream and high-volume models like the Venue and Creta are strong candidates to receive electrified versions. These models could potentially be equipped with a strong hybrid system, likely pairing the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated (NA) MPI petrol engine with a battery pack and an electric motor.

The Portfolio Breakdown

The targeted portfolio of 32 models by FY2030 will be divided across different powertrains:

  • Internal Combustion (IC) Vehicles: 13 models

  • Hybrid Vehicles: 8 models

  • Pure Electric Vehicles (EVs): 5 models

  • CNG Variants: 6 models

Key Launches and Timelines (FY2027 to FY2028)

The mid-cycle period between FY2027 and FY2028 is scheduled for the rollout of eight models, including two all-new nameplates and three full model changes. Anticipated launches during this phase include:

  • A new three-row hybrid SUV, which will be positioned below the segment previously occupied by the discontinued Tucson.

  • A locally-manufactured compact EV.

  • A small SUV potentially based on the global Hyundai Bayon.

  • The flagship Palisade SUV, likely to be introduced in a hybrid format.

  • The expansion of the latest generation of the Ioniq series of electric vehicles.

This aggressive roadmap signals Hyundai’s commitment to capturing market share in India’s rapidly evolving, greener vehicle segment.
